Berkmar High School Athletics

Carissa Powell

From the first time I laced up my cleats, soccer became more than a game — it was a foundation for resilience, growth, and community. A native of Georgia, I carried my love of sport from Mill Creek High School and onto the University of West Georgia, where I competed as a member of the women’s soccer team. My commitment and leadership on the field earned me recognition as a 2nd Team All-Conference selection, and later a place on UWG’s All-Decade Team. Honors such as the Westpy’s Athletes for Athletes Award and the Career Achievement Award reflected not only my athletic ability but also my spirit of perseverance and dedication to my teammates and giving back through sport for all the other athletic programs.
At Berkmar, I proudly serve as the Varsity Girls Head Soccer Coach while also assisting with the boys’ program. Beyond Berkmar, I coach club soccer at Concorde Fire. From 4-year-olds just learning the game to high school athletes preparing for college play, my approach is rooted in patience, encouragement, and teaching the fundamentals that build both skill and character. I recently completed my Master of Education in Physical Education at the University of West Georgia, and I continue to use both my academic background and personal experiences to empower my students and athletes. At my core, I am more than a teacher or coach — I am a mentor, motivator, and advocate for youth. My mission is to inspire every student and athlete I encounter to believe in themselves, embrace challenges, and build the confidence to succeed both on and off the field.
